Containers seem to be interacting on USB drivers

I am trying to run home assistant and pfSense on the same system (NUC8i5). Home Assistant uses a USB z-wave dongle...and pfSense is using a startech USB dual NIC. Each runs fine alone. If I start both of them, at some point minutes to hours later, Home Assistant loses contact with the z-wave dongle. Is it possible that even though they are running in different containers, the USB drivers are interacting?

anything visible in the logs?

when using usb devices in containers, it's still the same kernel (of the host) that interacts with the devices
