Container username issues

Hello,

I am a new user to ProxMox so forgive my simple question.

I have been working with the TurnKey folks, but they mentioned I should reach out here as well.

I have been diving into the container options in proxmox, and over the last month and around 30 containers i have been able to sucessfully log into only 2 containers. Many are the TurnKey containers, but even the default Ubuntu containers are not accessible.

As I understand the default username is "root" and we set the password in the configuration.

I would love any ideas on what I am doing wrong.

How do you try to connect to the containers? Uing SSH the root user is often not allowed to login using a password. Here you need to use RSA keys instead of passwords or you need to edit the sshd config file and change the line permitrootlogin (was called something like that) from "password-prohibited" to "yes"

I create the container in ProxMox using the blue button on the top right. I enter a password, for now it is simple and has no special characters. After the create wizard is done, I navigate to the container, and open a console. Then I power on the container. Once the script completes there is a login prompt. I use "root" and the password I set during container creation. it fails.

Same here.
  1. Create container from Ubuntu template (20.04 in my case).
  2. Start new Ubuntu container.
  3. Go to CLI console and try to logon as 'root' with password set during container creation.
  4. "Login incorrect"
Not sure where to find the documentation concerning these Ubuntu templates. Ubuntu doesn't like direct root access, but there's no way to crete a sudo user when creating a new contianer from the Ubuntu template.

works here without problem..
can you post your container config ?

Code:
pct config ID

was this ever resolved , im having the same problem. i create a new container, and setup the password, then in the CLI login into the container for the first time, i use root as user and my password and says incorrect password
