Console disconnects during VM boot

Using Proxmox VE 3.1, the console disconnects just after the VM displays "booting". So I must press Refresh and wait several seconds. This makes pressing Shift/Escape to interrupt GRUB impossible. Is there a workaround?

I have not seen this problem with the console disconnecting so not really sure what to do about that.

You could make the grub timeout longer so you have more time to interrupt grub.

Yes, that's one workaround. In my case, though, I needed to reset the root password in the VM. I intended to interrupt the boot sequence to start single-user mode.

I'll test some other VMs soon and see if I can reproduce the issue on all of them.

OK, here is a potential solution:

SSH into server running your VM.
Start the VM
Run this a few times right after starting it:

qm sendkey <vmid> esc

Then open up the console, should be at the grub menu.
