Connection timed out

I'm new to Proxmox (and linux in general). I installed VE 8.3 on a 256GB M2 SSD that I mounted in a mini PC (running Windows 10).
Installation went fine, but when I try to access the GUI I always get a 'connection timed out' error.

PC is connected to my Tenda AX3000 router via ethernet
DHCP range of the 192.168.0.0 subnet is 30-200
Default gateway and DNS is 192.168.0.1
IP address of Proxmox is 192.168.0.25

I'm using FF 133 to connect to https://192.168.0.25:8006

I've tried connecting in the Windows 10 installation on the mini PC but also via my laptop.

Can't ping the address either.

It's now a couple of hours and countless installations later and I'm getting desperate. I've been going through quite few threads here and on Reddit but haven't found a solution.

What do you mean by that?
I mean, if you boot up the bare-metal Windows installation, the also bare-metal PVE installation (on another drive) in the same system is, of course, not also booted up / running.
I guess, I am misinterpreting something here?

On the booted up / running PVE installation, please provide the full output each of:
  • cat /etc/network/interfaces
  • ip a

Yeah, that was stupid of me.
However, "to err is human, but to forgive is divine".

I booted up Proxmox and used my laptop, but still timed out/unreachable

Couldn't ping the gateway either in the console.

DId you setup WiFi manually? Proxmox does not support WiFi at all but you can set it up manually (although it comes with limitations and it hard to do without a working network connection) by searching the Wiki and this forum. Please connect your system with a Ethernet cable and configure it for the wired connection before you attempt WiFi.

The mini PC with proxmox is connected to the router via ethernet. The laptop via wifi ofc

I didn't set up wifi, just used the installer. Nothing more.

Looking at the output of ip a, the installer selected the WiFi adapter (without name and password) instead of an Ethernet network controller. It also shows that Proxmox does not see any other network controller. That would explain why you cannot get a connection. Maybe the network controller is too new and the Proxmox Linux kernel does not support it yet?

What is the output of lspci -nnk (we only need to see all the lines for the Ethernet Controller)?

For the Motorocomm Microelectronics YT6801, It does not show Kernel driver in use and no Kernel modules, which probably means there is no Linux support: https://devicehunt.com/view/type/pci/vendor/1F0A/device/6801 . Maybe you can find a driver for it? I could only find Windows drivers: https://treexy.com/products/driver-fusion/database/id/pci/ven_1f0a/dev_6801/
I googled it and found drivers, but haven't got a clue how to download them, let alone install.

Is there a way for me to try to get the ethernet controller up and running?

Can you maybe share a link for other people with the same issue in the future?

Temporarily use a different Ethernet network controller (USB or PCIe add-in card), is probably the easiest way.
Make sure that the driver supports the Linux kernel version (uname -a) and you install Proxmox kernel headers and possibly other requirements to build the driver module.

EDIT: Alternatively, place the drive in anther system, install Proxmox on that drive in that other system and move the drive back to your mini PC.

I haven't got a clue on how to do that... :(
The driver appears to be from December 2023 and claims to support Linux 4.19 and later. However, it might be too old to support the current 6.8 (or maybe you are running an older version since you did not show the kernel version using uname -a?).

You can if you use a supported Ethernet network controller temporarily and install the driver (but that might not be very easy but we will only know when you try).
Can't you buy a USB network dongle or borrow one from a friend? Or install Proxmox via a different system? Or use an Android phone to connect to WiFi or mobile network via USB?
It will take some learning and trial and error and effort. I also don't do these things regularly and don't know the details.
No possibility to do it via Windows?
I don't think so. You could run other virtualization software on Windows like VirtualBox instead of Proxmox. Or use hardware that is known to work with Linux out of the box (test with Ubuntu installer for example).

I can use my mobile phone indeed.

But wifi is working if I understand correctly, so I can go on the internet (although I don't have a GUI)?

Maybe you can find a Linux guide to use your phone for network?

No it's not working. You did not yet set it up correctly (no WiFi name and no password according to the photo, so how can it connect to your WiFi?) and you probably need to install some software to get it working on Proxmox (which you can't because you don't have a working network connection). Please search the forum and the Proxmox Wiki for more tips about setting up WiFi if you want to go this way.
