Confusion about storage creation for disparate nodes

I'll admit, I'm a bit confused by how Proxmox deals with storage options on Nodes. The default seems to be that every Node is the same in regards to disc allocation? Which does not work in my case because I have some disparate Nodes - and in my confusion I probably also went wrong somewhere.

I've got the following two Nodes already setup with another one to follow.
1) A staging/dev-server with one HD (Ext4) and one SSD (Ext4)
2) An older server with two HDs (ZFS RAID-1)
3) An upcoming server with two HDs (ZFS RAID-1) and three SSDs (ZFS-Z1 / RAID5)

I started with (1) and then was promptly confused because the ZFS disks of (2) were not configured automatically and the data center simply mirrored the config of (1) which, being EXT4, did not exist. I then managed to create both a usable local and a local-zfs Storage on (2) but I'm not sure that they're configured properly.

I'm still at a stage where I could simply wipe everything and start over (for example, I could also convert the single discs of (1) to ZFS as well).

I may have overlooked it but is there some kind of step-by-step guide on how to add a new Node with ZFS pools to Proxmox properly?

In general, a cluster - in the PVE sense - is built around a shared storage, so that the storage setup is indeed identical on all nodes and that assumes the cluster. If you want to have it otherwise, you need to change the storage options for a specific node after joining the cluster in the datacenter -> storage website. It works fine, but is a bit confusing, because before joining the cluster, everything is setup correctly and the actual joining copies the cluster setting to the local one, overriding any previously created storages and VMs.
