Hey all,

I apologize if this has been asked, but I was not able to find anything on Google or in this forum. I travel often for work and would like to be able to configure VMs/images on my laptop then just upload them to my proxmox server and boot the VM when I get home. Is this possible? If so, how? Any risks or nuances? Thanks so much for any response.

"configuring images" is a very stretchy terminology. Assuming you mean just building a qcow to your liking:
- yes its possible
- there are thousands of guides that describe how to build almost any OS as a qcow template/image. Most simplistic way is to install some sort of light weight virtualization on your laptop and use that.
- there are no risks and always some nuances. It all depends on what you are trying to do.

Thanks for the response. Maybe I used the wrong terminology. I have Parallels and VirtualBox on my laptop. I want to, for example, boot up an Ubuntu VM on my laptop; install Emby, Sonarr, Radarr, etc...; export the image. When I get home, upload the image to proxmox, boot it, and it work.

Something like this looks like what I'm after, but I wasn't sure whether or not I needed to do anything particular to ensure the configuration worked with proxmox. Particularly the networking portion is what I was concerned with.

Thanks again for replying. I'll just give it a try and see how it goes.
