Compatibility with I217LVM/i210AT network cards?

Hello all,

I was wondering if it is do-able to install proxmox on a new supermicro mobo (http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/xeon/c220/x10sll-f.cfm) with the I217LVM/i210AT network cards.

From what I have read thus far, the drivers are available for the 3.2 kernel but everything else is a manual installation. I'd like to find out if this is possible at all before I go and look at the subscription options for support and before I have to rent a different box (I love this hardware). One of the links before mentions that the e1000e drivers should work with this card, but that doesn't seem to be the case? Or how can I double check? I installed proxmox on my server, I just don't have any network connection on it, at all. I double checked all the configs and I put in a ticket with the datacenter support to check the gateway setup, but it all checks out. They claim it's a compatibility issue with the latest NICs on this motherboard.

Thanks in advance!

our latest 3.1 release use the following e1000e version:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/e1000/files/e1000e stable/2.4.14/

Code:
root@proxmox-7-106:/# uname -a
Linux proxmox-7-106 2.6.32-23-pve #1 SMP Tue Aug 6 07:04:06 CEST 2013 x86_64 GNU/Linux
root@proxmox-7-106:/# modinfo e1000e
filename: /lib/modules/2.6.32-23-pve/kernel/drivers/net/e1000e/e1000e.ko
version: 2.4.14-NAPI
license: GPL
description: Intel(R) PRO/1000 Network Driver
author: Intel Corporation, <linux.nics@intel.com>
srcversion: E08BFA31FFBE6A8F2869CB9

as I have no such hardware here in our testlab, I cannot do any test with it.

If you want, I can give you access to my box, it is completely empty so no personal data of mine is on there. it will have to be done through the IKVM obviously because of the lack of network access.

I have been trying to get it to work, but it seems that it's not possible with the current version.

Of course, but I have not yet received an answer as to whether it would be possible to get this working on my current hardware. I'd hate to have to buy a subscription and then be told that it is simply incompatible.

So far all Intel nics are working well on Linux, so I am pretty sure that this will not change - so if there are drivers available, they will find their way into our kernel. and as I already wrote, e1000e is there already in our V3.1.

Thank you for your reply, Tom, I really appreciate it.

I just typed 'lscpi' and it tells me that the I350 drivers are being used for my NICs, perhaps that's the issue? I'm going to dig a little bit deeper here and see if I can come back with a solution and share it here.
