Hello
Today I'm happy with 3 nodes in my homelab.
Want to jump to cluster (first I want to moove VM. There is no automatic dispatch if I remember correctly).

What are the pro and cons for cluster ?
Overkill or not ?

IS there a way to go back from it. For exemple to have a backup for
  • /etc/pve/storage.conf
  • /etc/pve/qemu-server/

Thanks for you help

I would say it depends on your usecase if you want to have a cluster or not.

If you have three identical computers you can for example live migrate a VM from host A to host B without any downtime.
You can form a ceph cluster.
You can have a single authentication method valid for the whole cluster.
And so on...

Downside is that configuration may be a bit tricky if you are not used to it but not that complicated.

You can always separate the cluster again.

Have a look at the documentation -> https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Cluster_Manager

I will form a ceph cluster in the coming weeks
SSO is a no brainer

I'm new to proxmox (15 years of VMware though). I can manage (but need humbly to learn. So listening)

Ok If I can separate and go back to single node. Cluster here I come :)

thanks for your time

Yeah but have a look at the manual. If you have any additional questions feel free to as here at the forum.
The people are usually very nice and reply to you within a couple of hours.

I will (and the forum and TBH ChatGPT lol)

Thank you again and yes very nice indeed.

PS: I'm not the only one shifting away from VMware from what I read

Yes, that's possible. There may be pitfalls:
