Cluster or not?

Hi,

I have setup two Proxmox servers in different locations in Germany.
I wonder if there are any cons to setting up a cluster? I read somewhere that the performance is slightly degraded?

Does the cluster work basically to manage all servers in one interface?

Thanks
Alex

The primary purpose of the cluster is to provide High Availability. As a side benefit of that you also get single pane of glass management.
Currently, PVE does not have one-interface management without a cluster.

A proper PVE cluster requires 3+ nodes. If you are splitting the nodes across different locations (even racks), then each one should ideally be in its own.

Cluster members need fast communication via low latency link. If the link between the locations is slow or unstable, you will be introducing failure points in your cluster.

Best,

That sums it up pretty nice, thank you.
I will not set up a cluster for now.

You basically cannot run PVE clusters geographically scattered, at all (it somewhat works till it doesn't, with fewer nodes, then completely breaks down):

Not really, it is not the primary purpose in case of PVE, but lots of users resort to it to achieve a single control plane, which is often at their detriment.
