Hello,

I have a question. I have a cluster of 4 nodes with 8.4 and I am adding 2 more nodes, but I wanted to take advantage of this to switch to Proxmox 9. Is this possible? Or are there any restrictions or limitations?

Best regards

Hello,

I would upgrade the existing nodes first and then add the two new ones as it is not recommended to run different major versions of PVE for a prolonged timespan.

When I had a version 8 node and a version 9 node in my two node (with quorum site) the HA feature did not work. After I upgraded the version 8 node to version 9 HA worked perfectly again. So if you use HA you have to upgrade all nodes to version 9.

Hello,

Thanks for the suggestion. I was thinking of reinstalling the cluster, that is, adding the two new servers with pve9 to the cluster and moving the machines so that I could then update the four nodes of the cluster. I'm not sure if this is the right thing to do, because I have a SAN that is distributing LVM to the four-node cluster.

Best regards

That's not "reinstalling", that is expanding an existing cluster and then upgrading some old nodes. For me this looks like the way I would go.

For the upgrade read https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Upgrade_from_8_to_9 in beforehand and consult "pve8to9 --full". There are "hickups" like changes in NIC naming...
