Clean install ProxmoxVE 0.9b2, can't create VM's

Hi all, I have a funny problem; I have seen a few other threads around this topic but not quite like this (clean install in my case, not an upgrade of prior system with older install?)

- did clean install of new release 0.9b2
- things go great it seems for install
- log in via web interface, try to create a virtual machine: First attempt, is just a KVM based virtual machine (specify OS as win2003, 500gig disk, 2gig ram).
- create dialog suggests all is well. However "List Virtual Machines" - there is nothing there
- on SSH console of system, I can see that a qcow file for this VM was created.
- if I try to create again the same VM, it complains that these settings are already in place for this VM, and it won't create. But I can't see it.

Then, try same thing for an openVZ machine:

-- download the ProxMox Mail GW OpenVZ template, using integrated download-template menus.
-- once done, create a new VM based on the openvz template
-- again, I get happy sounding messages from the "create machine"
-- (this time it was smaller profile, 16gig disk / 512mb ram)
-- but again, nothing shows up under "list VM"
-- but again, if I try to re-create the 'same' thing, it tells me it already exists
-- and also, on SSHConsole, I can see in the vz-private a dirtree which is consistent for the OpenVZ host to have been created.

I just can't see or access it via the web interface ?(!?)

Any pointers are certainly greatly appreciated. Including of course RTFM if this is an absurd oversight on my part! :-)

Thanks,

Tim

first, always make an apt-get update and apt-get update after a fresh install and if you report a problem, please send these two lines:

Version (package/version/build)pve-manager/0.9/3084 Kernel VersionLinux 2.6.24 #1 SMP PREEMPT Wed Jul 16 18:34:51 CEST 2008

but i never seen this. maybe a local browser issue?

Hi, Thanks for the suggestion. I'll take another look / try from different client browser next time I'm at the site. I will also run the apt-get update as per your suggestion, and capture the requested lines for reference.

Once I have this I'll post a response to the outcome. Likely next week.

Same problem. I've tried with Firefox and IE. Fresh installation, apt-get update and upgrade.

pve-manager 0.9-5
Linux proxmox 2.6.24 #1 SMP PREEMPT Wed Jul 16 18:34:51 CEST 2008 x86_64 GNU/Lux

I've done just one "customization", from a ssh console changed immediately root password of the host.

I can create openvz machines but I don't see in proxmox list but I can start them from command line and they work correctly. With kvm no luck (but I've migrated a win machine, btw some hints in the wiki are uncorrect, the file format is different where is said to use nano), I tried to launch kvm imagename but I have some errors (I think it is because I have to state all the parameters manually).

Thanks for info, Martin just corrected the migration wiki page. do you downloaded and created OpenVZ templates provided by us or do you also migrated containers?

Hi, Just a followup on my postings in this thread: I wasn't able to get any more test / info from the original system that exhibited this behaviour; the machine had to be deployed 'promptly' and is now in production (running other virtualization software, since SMP Windows guests was a requirement)

I've just completed a fresh install of ProxMoxVE onto other testing hardware, using same (latest) installer media; and now this time things work as expected (ie, I can create a KVM based virtual win2003 container, and it shows up properly in the list of available VM's). So - alas - I'm not sure what is different to cause this change in behaviour. In both cases it was just a stock install without patching /updates to the ProxmoxVE platform.

Just wanted to post a followup though.
