Hi,

I am following the below article to change the proxmox hostname.
It is not a cluster.

ve.proxmox.com/wiki/Renaming_a_PVE_node
As per the steps, the hostname can be updated with the below steps

  • /etc/hosts
  • /etc/hostname
  • /etc/mailname
  • /etc/postfix/main.cf

But, there this note "Proxmox VE uses the hostname as a nodes name, so changing it works similar to changing the host name. This must be done on a empty node."

Ours is not an empty node,so how we can proceed with the steps?

    Anyone can advise on this

    Thank you

Hi,

ideally you'd have a second node that you can use to migrate your VMs/Containers to temporarily. Before you do anything, make sure you have backups of your entire setup. You can also try to follow this older forum post [1]. There is a lot more information in that thread that might be helpful, but be aware that this isn't recommended! If you do intend to follow the information in that thread, read it carefully before taking any steps. Also please note that you might have to take additional steps depending on what storage setup is used etc.
