Sorry for the trouble but I'm trying to understand local storage. I have a 1TB Nvme drive on which I've installed Proxmox and all the virtual machines.
I also have another 1TB backup drive.

The trouble is when I click on my container 100 (pihole) and click backup, I just get these options:

local which only has 92GB Available on it. What happened to my 1TB backup drive? Is it local? Is it local-lvm?

Could someone please explain to me how I can save a backup to my 1TB backup drive?

Many thanks!

local is the partition on which proxmox is installed, local-lvm is the rest of the disk.
You can't backup directly to LVM, but you can create a volume with e.g. a directory that you can use to backup.

The backup drive seems to have no filesystem configured, if you give it a storage type that is compatible with backups, it should work. That will wipe your existing data on the disk though.

I also get confused with the way the web GUI presents the storage information. In disks you have nvme which looks like the boot disk. This has LVM partition of 999.67. This corresponds to local + local-lvm (galaxy) in the left hand column as storage. As mentioned above you cannot backup directly to local-LVM however it can be used for VM disks. Alternatively the other disk dev/sda1 has not been formated so choose init with GPT and create a partition dev/sda1. I would use ext4 as it makes more sense to a newbie. This will then appear as storage option and can be used backup.
Thats my understanding.
