Can't see my NVMe SSD disks after installing Proxmox on a usb drive

I have successfully installed proxmox on a usb drive (128GB) But i'm facing below issues

1- when the system is booting i can see "Volume group pve not found".
2- when i access the admin portal and try to create a "Volume group" or "Directory" i can't see my 2 NVMe (931.5GB for each) disk

When i check from the shell using "lsblk" or "lvmdiskscan" i can see both NVMe disks. I'd really appreciate if anyone could help me on which step i might need to follow to fix this issue so i can fully utilize my ssd disks.

By the way, both SSD disks are directly connected to the motherboard of my server, they are not attached from a usb port. Only my 128GB usb drive is connected to one of my 3.0 usb port.

I have tried to reinstall proxmox so many times but i'm still facing the same issue. However, if i install proxmox direct to one of those two ssd disks, everything work fine.

  1. Why are you using PVE 6 for a new installation? That will be EOL next month.
  2. Is your USB drive you installed PVE on a SSD/HDD or a thumb drive? A thumb drive will most likely wear out in no time.
  3. Do your NVMEs get listed under YourNode -> Disks? If yes, wipe them first (disclaimer: obviously data loss!) and see if they then get available.

@Neobin:
1. I have tried to install PVE 7 but still the same issue.
2. i have attached a picture of my usb drive here.
3. Yes, both my NVMes get listed + my usb drive in the installation procees when we need to select the disk where PVE will be installed. and i have already wiped them. but issue still the same.

By the way, i've tried esxi 6.7 & 7 and it works perfectly but i still don't know why it's not working for Proxmox.

Would definitely not recommend thumb drives for any Proxmox installation! While there exist thumb drives that are basically a SSD with a appropriate controller and good flash storage, yours is far away from those. Further more, sorry to say that, but it seems to be really bad [1]:
With an AS SSD overall score of 0 (zero), the AS SSD benchmark could not be completed. The reason for this is extremely poor 4K values. These are then around 0.01 MB/s, so it would take the benchmark tool days to pass the 1 GB test. Such USB sticks are not suitable for everyday use. It is better to invest a few euros more in a stick with better 4K values.

While ESXi is designed to run from a thumb drive or SD card, PVE is definitely not!

I don't mean in the installation process, but here:

@Neobin

Thanks a lot for the help. Yep the disk are showing up there and i was able to wipe them, then everything seems to be working fine as i can now create a group volume/directory.

Can you please recommend me a good usb stick/SSD drive that works better with proxmox (where i can install proxmox without any issue)? Can an SSD drive (128GB) work fine or not? if yes, Which type, any specific?

I would like restart the whole process from scratch and make sure everything's working smoothly before i start deploying VMs.

Again, Thanks a lot.

Unfortunately I have no personal experience with any kind of USB drive as a system disk, sorry.
