When attempting to apt install openvswtich-switch I get this message: unable to locate package openvswitch-switch. I currently do not have a subscription would that prevent me from performing installs?

There are no limitations if you do not have a subscription.

This sounds more like some problem with the configured repositories.

Can you post the output of running apt update?

You either have no network at all or no working DNS.
That's interesting because all the vm on the node can connect to the internet fine. So The vmbr0 will allow internal hosts to reach the internet but not the actual proxmox server? Ok doesn't make sense to me, I've added DNS server, perhaps you can help me understand why ?

The vmbr acts like a switch. You have to define a DNS server in the guests as well as on the host.
seems like that worked, it still seems weird that adding DNS servers provides connectivity... I just have to get used to how proxmox does networking. Thank you ph0x!!!

Well, in order to install some packages, it needs to connect to the repositories. To connect to the repositories, it needs to resolve the domain to an IP address -> needs working DNS.
