Hi,

I have a VM which I can't access it via console neither back it up. This is an extract of the backup log:

Code:
INFO: starting new backup job: vzdump 143 144 --quiet 1 --compress lzo --mailnotification always --mode snapshot --storage Storage2
INFO: Starting Backup of VM 143 (qemu)
INFO: Backup started at 2023-12-26 10:00:02
INFO: status = running
INFO: update VM 143: -lock backup
INFO: VM Name: VM143
INFO: include disk 'scsi0' 'Storage1:143/vm-143-disk-0.qcow2' 100G
INFO: backup mode: snapshot
INFO: ionice priority: 7
INFO: creating archive '/mnt/pve/Storage2/dump/vzdump-qemu-143-2023_12_26-10_00_02.vma.lzo'
ERROR: got timeout
INFO: aborting backup job
ERROR: VM 143 qmp command 'backup-cancel' failed - got timeout
ERROR: Backup of VM 143 failed - got timeout
INFO: Failed at 2023-12-26 10:10:08

Backup task is scheduled to do backups at 10:00 a.m. to two VMs, VM 144 is backed up correctly, the issue is with VM 143.

Regarding the VNC console issue, it tries to load but then get "Failed to connect to server". Error log:

Code:
VM 143 qmp command 'change' failed - got timeout
TASK ERROR: Failed to run vncproxy.

The VM is up and I can reach it by RDP and doing pings, the only thing that has been done to that VM (and to VM 144) is that both were online migrated from other server in the same cluster, both servers have the same Proxmox version installed, in this case 6.0-4.

I haven't restarted nor stopped the VM or Proxmox Server.

Thanks

Hello,

I would check the syslog during the backup and when you launch the noVNC in order to see if there is anything interesting in the syslog.

If possible, to do a clean shutdown of the VM and Start it again.

Regarding the Proxmox VE version you are using, I recommend upgrading to the latest support version, since the PVE 6.4.x is already EOL [0].

Hi Moayad,

Thanks for your reply. There is nothing interesting in the syslog. We'll try the clean shutdown, but I'm worried if thereis something wrong with the VM after the shutdown as we can't make backups.

And yes, we're planning a full upgrade for it.
