Dear all,

I am trying to add an used formatted SSD in Proxmox 6 with Ceph 14.2.4 Nautilus. It shows up under disks.

Under Ceph / OSD I choose for CREATE: OSD. But it says 'No Disks Unused'. But under DB Disk or WAL Disk I can choose the disk, but can't create it.

I am really struggling with this problem, anyone got a solution for this?

Thanks!

can you post a screenshot what it says under disk? maybe it has already partitions or lvm on it?

it seems we detect device mapper usage for those disks... how are they attached (sata/hba/pci)? did you do anything to them after attaching?

I have upgraded to Proxmox 6 and Ceph Nautilus. They worked in Luminous but got errors after the upgrade and got the message that the OSD's will not be working after a reboot of the node. So I decided to delete these Disks and add them again. I tried everything from formatting dd reboot etc but now Proxmox/Ceph can't add these. Also ceph-volume commands don't work and tells me that the Disks are in use.

They are connected sata.

Do I have to partition them or something else before I can add these in the GUI?

Solution:

In /etc/multipath/wwids you can # a line for the disk you want to add in the GUI of Proxmox.

Then restart multipath: service multipathd restart

Now you can check if your disk still is available (it should be not available): multipath -ll

gdisk /dev/sdX
X - Z - Wipe out all (all of your data will be deleted!)

Then you can create this OSD in the GUI: Create: OSD
With Ceph Nautilus you don't need any partitions anymore, so I went for the default settings

Then delete the # in /etc/multipath/wwids

And I rebooted the node, to see for sure that the OSD's will come up again.
