Cannot free FS /dev/sda in Proxmox GUI - But in Debian CLI is with space

Hi Team!

I am in need to free some space on my Proxmox server, because that can be the reason of another failure.

The space on FS /dev/sda is fine, according to the CLI, when I execute df -h, but in the Proxomox console, it shows as it is 100% full.
It is likely there is something using that space that is not used in the CLI. I am attaching a Word document with the print screen for your review.

As I need the server running, last night I have shutdown all the VMs and reboot the server, without any success.

How can I free these disks? Which is the service or object that, according to Proxmox console, is fulling the disk?

Any help will be very welcome!

Kind regards,

Ivonne

The screenshot is missing.

Please post output of "df -h" and "zfs list"

Hi H4R0!

I have attached a Word Doc with the screen but better to paste it here.

1) These are the disk that I am not able to free.

2) Here are the commands:

The df -h shows that the "/" is in good shape. The zfs list gives a "no datasets available". The command is installed but seems not configured.

I ve checked the FS with fdisk -l, but do not know if this helps better than zfs command.

I cannot find what is fulling the 300 GB in Proxmox.

Thanks for any help Forum Team!

Kind regards,

Ivonne

okay its lvm not zfs, i dont have the commands for lvm in my head, havent used it since 5 years.

can you try "lvscan", imho df should list the volume groups as well, kinda weird.

Ok. Taking note about zfs.

Here is the lvscan command:

From my conclusion, it is assigned to the root FS, according to the df command.

Seems it has space.

=c/

Any help is welcome!

Run vgdisplay and lvdisplay, to list the Volume Group(s) and Logical Volume(s). There you can see that the VG pve has all space allocated. But the LVs itself do only use the space they where provisioned with. LVM-thin is the exception, where every LV is thin-provisioned.

Hi Forum!

Here are my print screens. I see that the Volume pve has 278.75 GiB allocated. In the Logical Volume list, I see that the Volume name pve is set to the /dev/pve/root FS.

I can see that I have 2 volumes. On eof it, the pve with issues, has two logical volumes in it, where the swap and the / is there.
If I do a df I see the FS:

With fdisk, I can see the Logical Volumes, and the split:

/dev/sda1
/dev/sda2
/dev/sda3 - Used

But.... still it seems I am looking at the same thing, and cannot determine why the FS/Volume/Disk is full. Is I need to extend it or why it is so full.

I feel blind in the middle of the day..... sorry my questions Forum!

Kind regards,

Ivonne

You are most likely fine, my guess is the gui shows allocated space for the volume group, or has some glitch.

As your volume group /dev/root/pve and /dev/root/swap are the only ones for /dev/sda3 and df shows plenty of free space on the root mount, your space usage looks good.

correct.

LV allocation can be seen similar to having partitions, just more flexible.

Thanks to both! H4r0 and Alwin!!!
Amazing and quick help---!!!!

I was looping myself looking (and looping!) for a solution but having the idea that it was looking correctly to the FS. Maybe some bug on the console, but that is the last resource to think when looking for a solution.

I will try to restart the services to see if the issue is fixed.

Thanks again!

Kind regards,

Ivonne
