[SOLVED] Cannot Boot From ZFS Mirror

I installed 2 Samsung 980 M.2 NVME SSD each in their own Sabrent M.2 to PCIe adapters. Proxomox installer detected them just fine. I selected them from ZFS (Raid 1), and the install completed without errors. However, once I rebooted the ZFS mirror was nowhere to be found. It's not even in the bios or the hdd list for the bios boot manager, but it is listed in the UEFI boot manager as unavailable.

On a hunch - maybe the mainboard cannot boot from the PCIe adapters?
Make sure this is possible - else I'd suggest to install the system on SATA SSDs

I hope this helps!

I have had my suspicions about NVME being incompatible with this system as well, due to its age, so I will definitely look into this, and let you know the results. If it will help you assist me in diagnosing and resolving this issue, the system is a Poweredge T710 originally purchased from Dell in 2010.

After looking into this a good bit, it seems that NVME is the root issue. Now I need to see if there is anyway to add NVME boot support to this old machine. If anyone here has any other thoughts on the matter, or ideas of how to accomplish this, please let me know.

SATA M.2 SSD are not easy to find anymore, but luckily I picked up a couple of WD 500Gb drives to test this theory. I'll report my findings here once the test is complete.

This issue has been solved. As I suspected, my, now, TrueNAS server is too old, and as such, does not have boot support for NVME. At the same time the M.2 to PCIe adapters that I bought which are compatible with NVME and AHCI, which could work with SATA M.2 drives, still require the drives to have the PCIe connector, which they don't. With all of this being the case, I have reluctantly decided to give up some of the front drive bays for the OS install since I will be flipping this server anyway, when I get my new TrueNAS box (1u but will connect to disk shelf should I ever outgrow it's capacity). So it all worked out, even if it isn't the way I would have wanted.
