We are currently running proxmox 6.4-5 in our system with Ceph(nautilus), We haven't decided to upgrade to 7.1 yet. and will update soon to 6.4-11.

would there be a problem if we upgrade our ceph from nautilus to Octopus? while running 6.4-11

No problem, Ceph Octopus was released for Proxmox VE 6.3 already: https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Roadmap#Proxmox_VE_6.3

Check the upgrade docs closely: https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Ceph_Nautilus_to_Octopus

We haven't decided to upgrade to 7.1 yet
Actually, you need to upgrade to octopus before being able to upgrade to Proxmox VE 7.x, that is once you decide to go for that (6.x is still supported in maintenance mode until ~2022-07):
https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Upgrade_from_6.x_to_7.0#Preconditions

The newer Ceph Pacific on the other hand is not released nor supported for the Proxmox VE 6.x series, only for 7.x

@t.lamprecht - thank you for replying back. if I may ask so that I won't need to create another post. is it possible to migrate vps and kvm from 6.4-11 to 7.1? won't there be any problem when a vps/kvm migrates to a new version of proxmox? we are thinking of upgrading one server at a time including upgrading the ceph server. we have 3 ceph servers. we are worried that doing this route it may cause a lot of downtimes and an unusable system.
