Can PBS backup Physical HDD managed by Minio?

We are considering creating a VM in Proxmox to run Minio. So we can have local object storage. From what I've read Minio wants total control of the Physical HDDs that it sets up the object storage on.

My question, can PBS backup that physical drive, even though it's managed by Minio?

Thanks

Principle: Yes, PBS can!

Detailed: It depends largely on how this hard drive is integrated into the VM and how you want to perform your backup with the PBS. A properly passed hard drive is not included in the backup of the VM via Proxmox VE, so you would have to make a data backup explicitly for this drive from the VM.

There is simply no detailed information about your setup so that you can really say that PBS will backup it or not.

The other question is whether simply backing up data from the hard drive will do you any good at all. Can you do something with this data backup later or does it possibly have dependencies?
It may be better if you have a VM or the node that has the volume mounted and can read the data 1:1 (if Minio allows such access). Then you can actually back up the files using this VM or node and you don't have to rely on the installed solution to access this data.

Thank you for the answer.

I don't have much detail on the setup, because this is just the initial research. If there is a recommended setup that will allow backing up the Object Storage with PBS that is probably they way we would go.

Those are good questions, which I don't have the answers to.

Just to be clear on your last suggestion. Are you saying that we should read the data out from the Object Storage and back it up as files?

Yes, exactly, I think that's the best way if it's relevant data. This is the only way you can access the data regardless of the application. Otherwise you might have to restore the VM and also the hard drive to get a file. Of course, if minio saves it in a readable format, my point may be moot.
