Can KVMs and LXCs have access to their files on the PBS?

Do you mean that a VM or CT should be able to access it's own backups? In this case, you can simply use 'proxmox-backup-client' inside the VM/CT and mount/map the backup that way.

For the future, we are possibly looking into making it possible to attach backup drives to running VMs, or restore files directly into them, but for now the way mentioned above should work.
