Can I run vmware in proxmox?

Hi everyone,

I have got proxmox-KVM server, and I was trying to run vmware pro in promox but I failed. Is it possible to run the Vmware in the Proxmox environment?

I have successfully installed ESXi on Proxmox.

You first need to enable nested virtualization on your Proxmox node(s): https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Nested_Virtualization

The VM for ESXi is a standard BIOS VM (SeaBIOS + i440fx) with the "VMware PVSCSI" SCSI Controller but "SATA" vHDDs and "vmxnet3" vNICs.

Hi Gurubert, thanks for the reply. What about the "Type" Under the CPU tab? Do I select it as a host? or leave it as KVM64?

The CPU type has to be host.

I works fine until it does not. I got 3 or 4 pink screens in the last months, so you need to reboot it and then it'll work just fine until it does not. Hopefully the recent (security) update has some fix in it. We'll see.

I am running ESXi 6.7.0 in a training lab setup. This machine is online for about a week and then shutdown again.

Install no problem, but http://ip_address will get error message, cannot into ESXi web interface.

We too and we have currently 8 running without problem. Every VMware version was just a simple install as it would be on hardware (cpu=host).

What does "curl -v http://ip_address" show?

Yes, can ping the IP address, but http access not re-direct
