Can I install plex , transmission , rtorrent and other application ?

I install Proxmox 4 , can I install Plex and transmission and rtorrent on my server and use them ?

I've installed plex on a previous version of PVE, and worked great. Should work on 4.0 as well.
Just make sure you have enough storage space for your media library

The better option would be to use a container or KVM and install the software inside it.

Then you shouldn't be adding packages like these into your host. Use VMs, that's why we have them.

I run Plex inside a container. It works very well. It is best to use a 64 bit container, because transcoding is more efficient on 64 bit.

I am working (and close to achieving) running Emby.tv (similar to Plex) in one container and Kodi in another container with direct access to the main HDMI (audio + video) out of the Proxmox box. This way you can keep the stability of putting these apps in containers whilst still taking advantage of AV hardware already present in the Proxmox physical machine.
