Bug or feature? Daily spamreport has no envelope address

My PMG is routing some domains to other mailservers. Sometimes the daily spamreport is dropped by the spamfilter of theses other servers. One customer tried to whitelist these report mails, but then we saw that the mails are sent without envelope from. The from-address I can set in the GUI is only set in the header of the mail but not during SMTP dialog. Therefore it is hard to whitelist.
Can I set this myself? Is this a bug or is there a special reason why the mails are sent in this way?

this is hardcoded here:
https://git.proxmox.com/?p=pmg-api....cc519b5a1d1c866913d634ea5422f5d4;hb=HEAD#l100

Is this a bug or is there a special reason why the mails are sent in this way?
* it makes things a bit easier - and should something not work on the downstream server the bounce will reach the admin of PMG
* it is usually not an issue because the downstreamservers accept mail from PMG

Therefore it is hard to whitelist.
you could whitelist the IP/fqdn of your PMG?

Whitelisting the IP does not work in this szenario. My customer (the receiving Mailserver) wants to have his own Spamfilter aktiv (this is not my idea). So if he whitelists the IP of PMG his spamfilter would not work at all.
If it is hardcoded, I will not intend to change this - too much effort for this. It is the customers idea to have his own spamfilter so he needs to find a solution.
But I do not really understand why this makes things more easy. Assuming that I have set a good sender address, I do not see why there should be problems when this address is also used for the SMTP dialogue. I am only talking about the daily spam reports.

One reason for not making this (and everything possible) configurable is to keep the interface and configuration as simple as possible.
Every single option which is configurable is a place where things can be configured incorrectly, thus break the mail flow

While I see there are cases where this would make things easier - I think that SMTP servers need to handle empty from correctly (else other important things like bounces simply don't work).

If you like you can open an enhancement request over at https://bugzilla.proxmox.com - so if others also need this to be configurable they can say so in a central place. If there's a number of users who would benefit from this we will consider including it.

But currently I don't see this as a high-priority item - or something that needs reparing

I hope this explains it!

I completely understand this. Maybe my post was not so clear. I do not understand (technically) why an empty envelope brings advantages in the handling of bounces. In the GUI I can set the "sender address". If this address would be used for the mail header from AND the envelope, I don't think there might be more problems with bounces compared to the empty envelope.
But as you already said - this has absolutely no priority. So we can end this here and a also see no need for an enhancement request. In the typical szenario for PMG it will never be a problem!
