Hello everyone,
I am planning to install Proxmox 8 on some older servers equipped with a hardware RAID controller. This controller doesn't offer the option to split the drives for use with ZFS RAID.
Up until now, in similar situations, I have opted for ext4, primarily because ZFS requires direct disk access to function optimally, and using it with hardware RAID can introduce risks.
But now, I'm considering Btrfs. Does it have the same limitation as ZFS, or can it coexist seamlessly with hardware RAID? The reason I'm leaning towards Btrfs is because of its compression feature. I'm using this setup for SQL databases, and I believe disk compression could save a significant amount of space, and possibly improve our disk speed as well.
Would love to hear your thoughts or experiences on this.
Thanks in advance for your help!
