Greetings,

Is btrfs only available for the host (proxmox) server during install...and if so only if you have more than one drive? I have two drives..one nvme for the proxmox server itself and one 2Tb drive for containers and vm storage. I did not see this as an option during the install of promox to use btrfs so I got the traditional layout, I was wanting to try it for proxmox updates so roll backs would be an option. Perhaps snapper with btrfs grub can latter be implemented like suse does it so you can boot from a snapshot and just "snapper rollback" if a update goes side ways or a admin playing around messes it up. That would be a great feature for the lab env were we tinker around.

But..what I really wanted to do with btrfs was try it for vm and container storage instead of what I normally use which is lvm-thin. Doesn't btrfs have all the features of lvm thin including the ability to thin provision? Is anybody using it yet for containers and vm/s that might have some insight on how to achieve this? Additionally I was hoping that with btrfs that dedup would help save space on my 2tb drive since most will be linux containers and vm/s that share same files. I've wiped the drive and initialized it in the gui but can't seem to figure out how to properly setup the drive for thin provision and dedup. Also, I'm guessing that enabling autodefrag might be worthwhile. Has anybody setup a btrfs with cow for data storage of vm/s and containers and was it performing well, we're you able to thin provision and get dedup working. How did you setup the defrag routines. I'm just playing in the lab so this is not production.
