How did you assign IPs to your VMs in Proxmox?

The only way I've been able to work out requires dedicated network bridges per each dedicated IP - which means I need to mess about with Proxmox's host network settings (and manually ifup'ing network interfaces is less than ideal when you already have live VMs).

With other virtualisation suites I've been able to use a generic bridged adapter and do all the IP config entirely within the virtual machine. I'm sure this is possible in KVM/qemu too, but i just can't seem to get it working.
