hi,

why is /boot formatted ext3?
it's almost static, so without journal as ext2 it should be fine.

does it need to be that big per default 64M-128M should be enough.

Yes, because most users install more that one kernel (updates).
 
Just a note. On my 1.5 disc I just got, 'maxswap' does nothing and the correct parameter is 'swapsize'. 'maxroot' is correct though. Either it has been changed in recent times or it has gotten confused within the community.
