Hello,

I installed my first ProxMox server some days ago, and everything is working as i hoped, but the KVM feature.

I uploaded some ISO files i would like to run on my server, but the only OS that i cat get up and running is a Windows OS (windows XP).

My Debian ISO or specially created CentOS ISO are not able to install the software, becouse they seems to have problems accessing the harddisk.

See the screenshot bellow: ( example: debian 4.0 ISO)

your Proxmox VE version=?
(type pveversion -v and uname -a, post the output).

which ISO do you use exaclty (latest Debian 4.0r6?) and what Centos?

and finally: did you use IDE/SCSI or VIRTIO disk format for your guest?

pve-manager: 1.1-3 (pve-manager/1.1/3718)
qemu-server: 1.0-7
pve-kernel: 2.6.24-5
pve-kvm: 83-1
pve-firmware: 1
vncterm: 0.9-1
vzctl: 3.0.23-1pve1
vzdump: 1.1-1
vzprocps: 2.0.11-1dso2
vzquota: 3.0.11-1dso1

I tried the latest Debian 4.0r6 and i tried to install Sipcat 1.3 based on CentOS. (www.sipcat.com). This is a sip-server used for Voice over IP.

I used all the options. IDE/SCSI and VIRTIO.
When i use the Debian ISO, i get the error message as you can see in my screendump, and the sipcat 1.3 ISO (CentOS) has problems with finding the harddrive, ( so i think is is the same problem as in debian)

just tried that sipcat and also debian 4.0r6 (dvd) install without any issues (as expected). so something on your side must be different.

my test machine is 4 x Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU X3220 @ 2.40GHz on a Intel Server Mainboard. what on your side?

I use :

Model name: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6300 @ 1.86GHz

On a :

PDSMi+ mainboard ( SuperMicro server)

you use software raid in the guest and these guest have a problem with this?
just try with standard IDE disks and post again what you get.

Hi. Perhaps an ill-defined question.

Should I expect problems using virtio disks in software raid in my guest???

I'm using 4 disks in my guest (as virtio) ... and they are not being detected by the guest. (Openfiler - rpath linux 2.6.26) ... and the first time I booted the guest it DID detect the disks.... but no longer.

Other people definitely have virtio disks working in Openfiler distro.

Is it safer for me to use SCSI ? .... I've (elsewhere) encountered SCSI bus errors/quirks using the QEMU SCSI driver for KVM guests.... so thought virtio would be better.
