"Bad Request (400) ... Not ready to ready change, medium may have changed" after reloading tape

I have a recently configured Proxmox Backup Server currently with an IBM ULT3580-HH6 single-tape LTO6 drive writing to LTO5 media. All packages appear to be up to date with the "no-subscription" repo.

I've gotten it to back up to tape once, so I think it's working, but I get a strange error message every time I reload a tape.
Steps:
  1. Physically eject previous tape via PBS or front panel button
(the option used does not appear to affect outcome)
  2. Click "Reload" on the PBS Tape Drive screen
(if skipped does not appear to affect outcome)
  3. Insert new tape
    1. If I click "Reload" here, the drive will report "Loading" (no error)
    2. (wait for mechanical sounds to stop)
  4. Click "Reload" on the PBS Tape Drive screen
    1. Error message visible on right:
      Code:
      Bad Request (400)
mode sense(10) failed - Unit Attention, Additional sense: Not ready to ready change, medium may have changed
  5. Click "Reload" again (immediately or after a delay)
    1. Error message disappears, tape information as read from drive appears

At first I thought I might have been hitting Reload too soon and the tape was still busy with the reload process, but this seems to be reproducible whether I wait several minutes before clicking refresh after load or whether I double click refresh immediately after the mechanics stop whirring. Always on the second Reload the tape information shows.

This is reproducible whether the loaded tape was already reformatted by Proxmox, a previously used PBS backup tape, or a tape previously used by a different backup package that needs reformatting

Anyone else seen this / is this expected behavior?
