Backups with snapshot take long time; VM is unusable while backed up

My backups run fine, but take long time (~2,5h /115GB)
Even more disappointing is that the VM is almost not reacting while being backed up

From vsphere I know that snapshots do not affect the performance of the VM

how does the host's (CPU/network) load look like during backup? If you have high IO wait, you can try using a lower max-workers setting for the backup job. See here for how to configure it.
