Hi,
I tried looking at both PVE and PBS docs after i came up with the following configuration but i am not getting what i would expect (i keep having just the last 24 backups, the 25th is always pruned, even if it was taken 2/3 days ago, 7 daily seems not respected)... can you please clarify to me the logic?

1) Is this configuration supposedly keeping a monthly backup for 3 monts, a weekly backup for the last month, a daily backup in the last week and 24 for the last day only?
2) When you say weekly, does it mean 7 days since last backup or a fixed given day of the week?

I think the documentation takes for granted such considerations while they need more explaining.

Thanks!

2) In this given config, what happens when we move from a day to another? Are 24 hourly getting precedence and avoid the deletion of the 23 hour backups of the previous day (given that we asked to keep 7 daily) or are they considered superfluous since there is the 24th and all pruned at once?
3) When you say weekly, does it mean 7 days since last backup or a fixed given day of the week?

Please forget it for now, switched 2 days ago while experimenting on a new DS, the history is still too short!
Should have given a look to the logs before wasting your time, sorry!

No, well said, I guess I missed it today. I was admittedly rushing among too many things and concluded too quickly that the behavior of the retention was not working as expected. In reality any comment about documenting it are non sensed since if it does its job as anyone would expect, there is not much to say, it's logical!
By the way the simulator is cool and even more than one might expect from the docs!
