I’m wondering about proxmox backups. When the backups are done, does it flush what’s in ram to the backup as well? When I restore from a backup is it like when I restore from a snapshot? Where the machine is already booted etc?

I’ve seen some backup solutions in the past, namely restoring from ZFS snapshots where the VM comes back, but it’s basically in an off state. The system acts as if it’s coming back up from having the power yanked from it. That’s not good on the filesystem of the VM and has caused me issues in the past.

I agree.. but I've seen some filesystems shit the bed after having the power unplugged from them to many times :)

Proxmox VE backup freezes the file system before the snapshot backup starts (as long as you installed the qemu agent inside), so a file system corruption is prevented.
(so its not the same as unplugging the power)
