Hello World;

I've got a Proxmox VE 8.0.4 machine and a TrueNAS Scale (Linux based) NAS and would like to use PBS to backup VMs and Containers to the TrueNAS machine.

I can either install PBS as a VM on the PVE host or as a VM on the TrueNAS host (uses KVM internally). Which of the two options is preferred?

  • If your PVE vanished: you could the PBS on Scale to restore data
  • If your Scale went south: the PBS on PVE w/o the actual data does not help at all
So I would place the active software near by the data: PBS on Scale. But as usual: YMMV...

Best regards

And PBS with many IOPS matter, will mean. NVMe oder SATA SSD are better (IOPS) as a network share.
