Hi,

This is a noob question ;)
I am looking for a backup solution for the pve server it self. I tried using Live-CD with partimage, ghost4linux, Knoppix to make an image of the server but with no sucsses. All CD's I used only see a ~500 MB (boot) partition but not the lvm partition even they do recognise my HW controller (HighPoint 3510 - Raid 10). Not sure what I am doing wrong.
My goal is to create an image of the server so I can restore the complete server in case of a failure. I used Acronis for my windows server but Acronis Boot CD does not recognize the controller.

VM backup works with vzdump without a problem.

I was wondering what you guys use to backup your server and maybe you can point me to the right direction?

Specs:
Q6600
8GB Ram
Highpoint 3510 - Raid 10 -1TB
2 NIC
6 VM (KVM)

Kind regards
B.

not an "image backup" solution like acronis but can maybe this can help here:
http://backuppc.sourceforge.net/info.html

or take look on Bacula (as far as I remember there is a way to bar-metal restore image but this is not plug and play).

Thank you Tom!!
I don't mind if it's not a plug and play solution as long as I can backup and restore the server some how :-) I will check it out!

Cheers
B.

Just fyi...
I managed finally to create the image with clonezilla.
Clonezilla reconized the controller and the server was backed up in 1.5 hour.
I am using a windows home server with windows services for unix (SFU 3.5) as a NFS Server. Very happy so far with this "low budget" backup solution.:D

Thank you Tom for your reply.

Kind regards,
B.
