Backup kvm VM's on 2.1 without using vzdump

I did something really silly.

I did a fresh install of 2.1 on a machine and made it the master node on a cluster, then I went to add a second node that had a bunch of VM's already on it, and it wouldn't let me add it with existing VM's, so I thought that can't be right, the master/first node is blank, so I used the -force option with the pvecm add command. That worked too well, it deleted all the VM .conf files for the running VM's, I can't see it made a backup of their conf. and so I can use vzdump to snapshot back them up and restore them to the cluster. All the .raw disk images are there, the VM's are all running, it's just they don't show in the GUI, or qm list, which is obviously looking for the .conf files and other things.

How can I back up the running VM's so I can import them properly to the cluster.
