Hello guys I have some VMs on at home proxmox and I have them backup. I would like to restore those backup on a server that I have in a DC with diff Proxmox. Suggestions? Thanks

Make sure that the server can access the backups, for example by copying the backups to the server, and restore the VMs. What is the problem?

EDIT: There is also the new command-line qm remote-migration, if both nodes/clusters can reach each other (temporarily) via the internet.

EDIT2: If you are worried about (privately) connecting the two systems, look at wireguard to setup a private tunnel (or just use plain ssh, scp, sshfs).

This probably depends alot on the use case I suppose. If you want this to be a permanent thing... I would build a VPN between the two sites for secure connectivity, and deploy a proxmox backup server either at DC or at your home. Add that PBS to both hosts, and do backups. You can then restore/backup to/from either Proxmox host.

If this is a one time thing, I would either load your backups onto a drive and sneeker net it over, or just use a file transfer protocol like sftp or something and move the backups to your other servers backup directory. You can then restore that backup on the other host.

thanks, I do have VPN on between the site I wonder if I needed anything special to restore. looks like I can copy the folder of the backup over and then go into the backup and restore that's the part I was missing. Thanks

Yes, its pretty simple once you understand its just a few files that proxmox sees as a backup (make sure you copy all of them so you retain your notes and everything). In case you are unaware (I was at first), you can find your backup directory in Datacenter>Storage. (With zfs anyway, the default location is /var/lib/vz).

or you could just replicate your proxmox to another proxmox. They do not need to be in a cluster. And in this process you only have very little downtown. And if it does not work, the migration, then you still have everything waiting to be started. Of course, given you can replicate to that machine and dataset are named the same
