Backup file restore

Hello everyone,

Has anyone experienced this issue before?

I have a Proxmox VE environment with two Proxmox Backup Servers, but when I try to use the File Restore feature, I get an error.

Versions:

  • Proxmox VE: 8.1.3
  • Proxmox Backup Server 1: 3.0.1
  • Proxmox Backup Server 2: 3.4.0
The affected VM is a Windows Server 2016 Standard VM.

What is strange is that older backups open normally without any issue. Since this problem started recently, I’m trying to understand what could be causing it and if anyone has already faced something similar.

The same issue happens on both PBS 1 and PBS 2.

Is there any command or repair procedure on the Proxmox Backup Server side that could fix this?

Thanks in advance!

can you check the file-restore logs under /var/log/proxmox-backup/file-restore (on the Proxmox VE host)?

this message appears usually when there is a filesystem in use in the guest that is not readable with a linux kernel

also, please update your PVE installation, 8.1 is really old and missing security updates, and the whole 8.x version is going EOL this year
