I've a container that has always problem with the backup on pbs

pbs version is:
proxmox-backup-server 1.0.6-1 running version: 1.0.6

proxmox-ve version:
pve-manager/6.3-3/eee5f901 (running kernel: 5.4.65-1-pve)

the backup of a container gives always this problem:

Hi,

122: 2020-12-22 00:07:38 ERROR: Backup of VM 122 failed - command 'rsync --stats -h -X -A --numeric-ids -aH --delete --no-whole-file --sparse --one-file-system --relative '--bwlimit=80000' '--exclude=/home/.+' '--exclude=/tmp/?*' '--exclude=/var/tmp/?*' '--exclude=/var/run/?*.pid' /proc/5381/root//./ /proc/5381/root//./home /var/tmp/vzdumptmp3362_122' failed: exit code 11
Do you have enough disk space? Have you tried to back up on another storage/datastorage?

Could you please post the config for your LXC Container 122?
arch: amd64
cores: 2
features: nesting=1
hostname: utechnos.**************
lock: backup
memory: 4096
mp0: nfssynology:122/vm-122-disk-1.raw,mp=/home,acl=1,backup=1,size=700G
net0: name=eth0,bridge=vmbr0,firewall=1,gw=192.168.1.10,hwaddr=32:C4:0F:5B:2C:8E,ip=192.168.1.16/24,type=veth
onboot: 1
ostype: debian
rootfs: nfssynology:122/vm-122-disk-0.raw,acl=1,size=10G
swap: 2048

Other similar conainers have no problem

Hello, I had the same issue.
For the snapshot you should have enough space in tmp dir
starting first sync /proc/5381/root/ to /var/tmp/vzdumptmp3362_122
In my case I have 20Gb for / and 420Gb for /var/lib/vz/ and one of my biggest CT was never backup.
For my part I have modify /etc/vzdump.conf => tmpdir: DIR to tmpdir: /var/lib/vz/tmp/ and my backup job finish with sucess.
I hope this solution will help You.
Best Regards

How much is "enough"?
Tx

Hello,
it depends on your container. The bigger your CT, the more space you need.
From what I've seen, Backup copies the contents of the container to a temporary folder before compressing it to the final backup folder, in your case /var/tmp/vzdumptmp3362_122 is the temporary folder, and I think your folder /var/tmp/ is too small.
I think I have to have at least as much space for the copy as the contents of the container.
This is why I chose to put in temporary folder, the folder of my CT.
For me /var/lib/vz/ => 420 Gb to share between the CTs and the temporary backup copy.
Best Regards

Hmmm, interesting.
I've many containers very big
Do you know if i choose Stopped how much time does it remain stopped?
FOr the whole backup or as with the KVM, only few seconds?

Tx

Indeed, before finding this solution I had noticed that I had no error if I made a backup in stop mode.
I think there is no copying of the files in this case, just direct compression.
Unfortunately, the CT is unavailable the entire time of the backup which represents several minutes ...

Best Regards
