if you deleted the .chunks directory all your backups are effectively gone. you can create a new datastore and start over..

I don't understand your question.. please try post clearly how your current job schedule looks like, what you expect, and what you see (and please switch the language to english if you post screenshots and/or output of commands!)

skip external VMs: 228, 353 ???? From where ?

a node can only backup guests that are currently located on that node..

the jobs are executed on all nodes - each node will backup its own guests only, since it doesn't have access to those on the other nodes.

I'll try to explain once more - if you have a cluster, each guest (VM/CT) is located on one specific node.

e.g.:
- node A: guests 100, 101, 102
- node B: guests 103,105
- node C: guest 104

if you define a backup job for all guests, each node will backup the guests it has, and will log which ones it skipped because they are located somewhere else
- node A: will backup 100, 101, 102 and log that it skipped 103, 104, 105
- node B: will backup 103 and 105 and log that it skipped 100, 101, 102, 104
- node C: will backup 104, and log that it skipped 100, 101, 102, 103, 105

INFO: skip external VMs: 100, 102, 103, 104, 106, 107, 108, 109, 110, 112, 113, 114, 115, 116, 118, 119, 120, 121, 129, 141, 149, 165, 173, 174, 181, 182, 185, 186, 189, 193, 194, 195, 196, 197, 198, 200, 205, 207, 208, 209, 210, 212, 213, 214, 217, 221, 222, 223, 224, 227, 230, 231, 232, 233, 234, 235, 244, 245, 246, 247, 248, 250, 251, 252, 253, 257, 258, 271, 272, 291, 292, 293, 294, 296, 297, 298, 299, 300, 301, 302, 303, 304, 305, 306, 308

Then why not back them up?

I don't understand this? Do I need to do a separate task for them?

so my guess is:

you added a backup job on a node already on 7.1 but that is not executed on the nodes running 7.0

first, it's recommended to upgrade the nodes to the same version (as close as possible) in this case we mentioned this issue in the release notes: https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Roadmap#Proxmox_VE_7.1
  • With the addition of pvescheduler - the new backup schedules are no longer configured in the cluster-wide /etc/pve/vzdump.cron file. While this file is still read and will remain supported for the foreseeable future, changing an existing backup schedule will cause the schedule to be stored in the new config file /etc/pve/jobs.cfg.This is not problematic, as long as not all nodes in a cluster have been upgraded to the new version, since backups will only run on nodes who read the new config file.To avoid any problems, simply upgrade all nodes in your cluster before making any changes to scheduled backups
