Backup disk size issue.

I filled up disk with about 80GB data and deleted files. But backup size of VM is still that high - around 70GB but actual data size of VM is only 15-20GB. I tried:

[root@ns1-2 /]# dd if=/dev/zero of=/zerofile; sudo rm /zerofile
dd: writing to `/zerofile': No space left on device
1142985+0 records in
1142984+0 records out
585207808 bytes (585 MB) copied, 13.2273 s, 44.2 MB/s

But still backup size is higher than it must be. What should I check?

I actually use raw disk. zerofile method must have been helpful but did not.
