I’ve currently got a proxmox backup server running on a small beelink nuc. My issue is it’s maxed at a 2 tb hard drive and I’m worried about running out of space at some point. I also have a share from my NAS that I run backups to as well.

I’ve got a NAS running bare metal in my lab and was thinking of attaching a share to my pve, running pbs as a vm and attaching the NAS share to it for storage so I can have more then just 2 tb’s of storage. Then I can get deduplication and the benefits of pbs still.

Any issues you can see with that or a better option? Ideally I’d like to run pbs bare metal but I don’t have the resources to do that other then what I’m doing now… on the nuc.

PBS needs IOPS performance so best case you want local SSD storage and not HDDs or NFS/SMB share adding latency.
PBS VM backed by NAS will work...just don't except it to be fast. Especially the GC will run a very long time.

I appreciate your response. I might try the vm route for a while and see how bad the performance is.
