Hi Forum,
I have a three node cluster. One of the nodes primarily works as a NAS. The NAS data is stored on a ZFS mirror consisting of 2x2TB disks. I created the zpool in the Proxmox GUI ("Add Storage" checked), and the zfs datasets on the cli. The files are served in a LXC Container which has the datasets as mountpoints. That setup works, including offsite backups.
To add another backup with an entirely different strategy and location than the other backup, I simply wanted to replicate the NAS storage, the 2x2TB ZFS mirror, to one of the other nodes, which has a 2TB external USB disk attached. I tried to follow https://forum.proxmox.com/threads/step-by-step-zfs-storage-replication.52791/#post-244298. So I created a ZFS Pool in the GUI on the second node, using the 2TB USB disk as single device, with the exact same name as the 2x2TB zpool on the first node, "Add Storage" being unchecked. Then I added the second node in Datacenter >> Storage to the storage created on the first node. So I did everything like in the description in the linked thread. I waited for the magic to kick in, but nothing happens, no data is replicated to the zpool on the second node. I thought that replication maybe only works for the content placed on the storage by Proxmox, so I created a container and placed it's disk on this storage, to see, if the dataset of the container replicates - that also didn't happen.
So I guess I missed something in the setup, or I got the idea of the replication entirely wrong. Any ideas?
Thanks, Cheers!
