Hi,

I'm using a testing proxmox to play audio. I want to use a kvm machine with Windows XP to play audio using the server machine sound card. I plugged an ampli to the audio output and my idea was to create a small virtual machine as jukebox. I tested with mpg123 running on the host directly and it plays mp3, but from the Windows XP I hear nothing. I checked the args: -soundhw command and I see a sound card on windows but no sound at all. I don't know if somebody tried a similar configuration or can give me a hint?

Thanks!

how do you connect to the windows xp vm? VNC does not support sound, you need RDP for that. Also winxp does not have rdp, you need winxp pro. And i found that several linux rdp clients don't play sound either (gnome-rdp does work fine)

I tested RDP from windows and still get no sound, in fact, the sound-out is coming from the server ( proxmox hypervisor ) so I dont know if the sound from a vm can be transfered to the hypervisor....

Yes and it showed me the correct sound devices ( internal intel and nvidia sound chip ), and sound is working great as I tested with a sample sound... But sound works only on the proxmox, not on vm's :(

Maybe im using a wrong version of XP, does it work with ubuntu ? ( Gnome ) which software I need to make RDP ?
