Hello,

I have two servers backing up to a single backup server.

The second server has 4x2TB drives directly passed into a TrueNas Scale VM. The VM has about 150GB of storage used from the 7.2TB avail.

I have tried to back it up, it's taking forever and looks like it's backing up the full 7.2TB.

When I've backed up LXCs from the other server it just backs up the taken space and takes much less time (both have 7.2 TB of storage available)

Any ideas how to do it properly :)

Exclude the passed through disks if you don't want them to be backed up. Without dirty-bitmapping each backup task will need to read and hash the full 8TB, no matter how much of that space is used or not which takes some time, even if he backup task isn't sending much data to the PBS. But it first needs to read everything to be able to decide what needs to be backed up and what not. To use dirty bitmapping make sure you use PBS and never shutdown the VM or server as this will drop the dirty-bitmaps.

Is there an easy way to exclude the passed-through disks in the GUI?

Open the VMs hardware tab, select the passthroughed disk, click edit button and uncheck the "backup" checkbox.

I feel like I should put money in box for this.

I have backed up a VM (Server 2 - in its own namespace) and I want to restore it to Server 1.

The backup server is attached to both server but I can't see the namespace backups only the ones that belong to server 1. Is it possible to move the backup across to a new node, there is no ID match..i.e 100 is free.

I used my grey matter, added a new storage pool for backups with the namespace (rather than the default root).

I can see the VM.

Genius this proxmox stuff
