Was reading some articles on Phoronix this morning;
https://www.phoronix.com/news/AMDGPU-VirtIO-Native-Mesa-25.0
https://www.phoronix.com/news/DRM-Native-Contexts-FPS-VM
And these things seem to suggest that there is now technology out there that would allow Linux Guests running Mesa 25 on a Linux Host (such as Proxmox, presumably) to have near-native performance whilst sharing the host's GPU. It would appear that this at present might only be available for AMD GPUs and no Windows Guest OS support.
Just wondering if anyone here has played with this tech and if it's on the Proxmox team's radar as a feature? Can't find any other reference to it in the Proxmox forums, but that might just be my bad search skills
I for one would really like to be able to use this in my homelab, lots of us use Ryzen APUs to host things and PCI passthrough for iGPU is not only a nightmare to configure, it only works for 1 guest at a time and don't even get me started on the reset bug!
Not sure if it really has much of a commercial application though? What percentage of businesses that want some GPUs in a server actually buy AMD? Not a great number I wouldn't have thought.
