In addition, the pve service will not start

I noticed this as well:

root@ilsbnode2:~# dmesg | grep -E 'SPL:|ZFS:'
SPL: Loaded module v0.6.5.7-3_g8455153
ZFS: Loaded module v0.6.5.7-8_gf1b07c5, ZFS pool version 5000, ZFS filesystem version 5

Same issue ( pools gone), but pve services operating normal

root@nvme:/var/log# dpkg -l | grep zfs
ii libzfs2linux 0.6.5.8-pve14~bpo80 amd64 OpenZFS filesystem library for Linux
ii zfs-zed 0.6.5.8-pve14~bpo80 amd64 OpenZFS Event Daemon
ii zfsutils 0.6.5.8-pve14~bpo80 all transitional package
ii zfsutils-linux 0.6.5.8-pve14~bpo80 amd64 command-line tools to manage OpenZFS filesystems

Upgrade from 0.6.5.8-pve13~bpo80

Fixed with /sbin/zpool import rpool via https://forum.proxmox.com/threads/dell-r730xd-issues-with-raiz1-boot.32425/. Survives reboot.
