Hi there.
I've added additional mirrored (hardware Raid1) 3TB storage (3,5" SAS 7.2k).
My goal is to share this storage both for VD's and for some proxmox backups.
Might be wrong but that means that I shall split the capacity (lets say 50/50) for LVM (vd's) and rest for EXT4 for backup space.
Or easier solution would be to create full capacity mounted EXT4 and then just file-based VD's like QCOW.

i need to add additional VD for my VM - ca 1TB capacity. Thin-provisioning I gues shighly recommended since the real usage will grow pretty slow. Also would be nice to be able to extend a bit VD's capacity later on.

I wonder if QCOW would be easiest way for now. Also since it's I guess easiest to copy/move to some temporary storage if needed.

Any suggestions apreciated.

I'd say it's up to you, really. Your requirements seem to fit all image formats.
