Adding hard drives with data already on them?

Hello everybody. First time poster. I've been using KVM for the last 7-ish years, but have been wanting to use Proxmox ever since I read about it a few years back. I just ordered a few more hard drives, but would like to retain the data I already have on my current hard drives. Would I be able to safely use those data drives on Proxmox without losing any data? As of right now, they're formated in the ext4 filesystem. I do have backups in the event something goes south, but this is a new platform for me and that is my primary question. Do I just create a directory and add it to fstab like usual?
